Step through instead of over: this frame version of Aventon's Level 4 REC keeps the 750 W hub motor and 733 Wh battery, and its two sizes fit riders from 4'11" (S/M) to 6'1" (Large) by Aventon's chart. It is a city bike for people who stop and start often and would rather not lift a leg over a top tube.
Highlights
- Hub drive with Boost: 750 W rated, 1188 W peak and 80 Nm; Boost Mode gives up to 1440 W and 96 Nm in bursts of up to 30 s.
- Battery and range: a removable 36V 20Ah pack (733 Wh, LG 21700 cells) that the brand rates for up to 121 km in Eco pedal assist; about 5 h to charge.
- Ride feel: a throttle on the bars and a sensor switch between torque and cadence assist (how torque and cadence sensors differ).
- Brakes that recover energy: Tektro hydraulic discs (HD-E3120 front, HD-E3520 rear with motor cut-off) on 180 mm rotors, backed by regenerative braking.
- Cushioning: an 80 mm coil fork with preload and lockout and a 50 mm suspension seatpost over 27.5 x 2.2 in Kenda Kwick Seven-5 Sport tires.
- Speed and load: 32 km/h out of the box, convertible to a 45 km/h top speed by the brand's figure; Shimano Altus 8-speed; 136 kg maximum load and a 31.1 kg bike weight.
Who it suits
City riders who carry a bag or groceries on the included rear rack, ride through wet weeks behind full fenders, and want a foot on the ground quickly at every light.
Good to know
- Range is the brand's figure; speed, hills, rider weight, tire pressure and cold all change it. How to estimate your range.
