One province, three climates
South coast
Environment Canada's 1991–2020 normals put January's daily average at 4.6 °C at Victoria airport and 4.1 °C at Vancouver airport, and both stations log under 40 cm of snow a year (38.6 cm and 36.6 cm). Rain is the coastal test. TransLink reports that the Metro Vancouver cycling network has grown to nearly 5,000 km.
Southern Interior
Kelowna's July averages 20.0 °C, with 27.8 days a year above 30 °C, yet January averages −2.6 °C. The City of Vernon describes the Okanagan Rail Trail as 50 km from Coldstream to Kelowna at an easy 1.3% grade, and Parks Canada's Myra Canyon site, a 9.6 km stretch of the Kettle Valley Railway, crosses mountain terrain on a series of high steel and wooden trestles and tunnels.
The North
Prince George averages −7.8 °C in January and records 203.9 cm of snow a year. At Fort Nelson, January averages −20.3 °C and 133.1 days a year never rise above 0 °C. Our fat tire winter guide covers riding on snow.
Trails that cross the province
Trails BC says the Trans Canada Trail runs nearly 1,700 km in B.C., from Victoria to the Rocky Mountains, plus about 1,000 km along the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek to Watson Lake, Yukon. Recreation Sites and Trails BC manages about 475 km of recreation rail trails with 47 bridges and seven rock-cut tunnels, and on Vancouver Island the Galloping Goose covers 55 km between Victoria and Sooke.
Matching a bike to the region
For wet coast commutes and gravel back roads, the Velotric Summit 2 combines 27.5 x 2.4 in Kenda puncture-resistant MTB tires, an RST air fork with 120 mm of travel and a removable 802 Wh battery. For northern snow, the Himiway D7 (Cobra) rides on 26 x 4.5 in fat tires with full suspension and a 960 Wh battery. Compare more fat tire e-bikes and long-range e-bikes.

Questions
Is there an e-bike rebate in B.C. right now?
The provincial BC E-Bike Rebate Program has ended. Its administrator, EcoForward Sustainable Solutions Society, says the program went live on June 1, 2023 and ended on September 30, 2025. If the Province opens a new e-bike program, its official page will set out the terms, so check there before you buy.
What are the best e-bike trails in B.C.?
Rail grades are the easy wins: the Okanagan Rail Trail between Coldstream and Kelowna, the Myra Canyon trestles on the old Kettle Valley Railway, the Galloping Goose from Victoria to Sooke, and the provincial rail trails in the Slocan Valley and along the Columbia and Western. Check each trail organisation's own page for conditions and closures before you go.
Which e-bike is best for riding in B.C.?
Pick by region. Coastal riders see far more rain than snow, so puncture-resistant tires and hydraulic disc brakes matter. Interior riders mix summer heat, climbs and gravel rail trail. Northern riders get long, snowy winters, where fat tires are worth a look. The Velotric Summit 2 suits wet coast roads and gravel back roads; the Himiway D7 (Cobra) is built around 26 x 4.5 in fat tires.
