Mid-drive power on a step-through commuter frame: Aventon's Level 4 ADV Step-Through puts its Ultro S motor at the cranks and links it to an electronically shifted Shimano CUES 10-speed. It is for riders who cover long commutes and would rather step through a frame than over it.
Highlights
- Ultro S mid-drive: 750 W peak and 100 Nm of torque at the cranks; Aventon does not publish a rated figure.
- 800 Wh removable battery: 36V 20Ah with Samsung 21700 58E cells and keyless removal, rated by the brand for up to 177 km in Eco pedal assist. A full charge takes about 5 h.
- Electronic shifting: Shimano CUES 10-speed with an 11–39T cassette, run by Aventon's E-Shifter with AutoShift.
- Suspension and brakes: a 100 mm coil fork with preload and lockout, a 50 mm suspension seatpost and Tektro HD-M3120 2-piston hydraulic discs on 180 mm rotors.
- Speed: assist stops at 32 km/h out of the box; once unlocked, the top speed is 45 km/h by the brand's figure.
- Commuter kit: rear rack, fenders, integrated lights, 4G/GPS tracking and an e-lock, on 27.5 x 2.2 in Kenda K1052 tires; 136 kg maximum load and a 27.7 kg bike weight. Aventon lists the system as certified to UL 2849 and the battery to UL 2271.
Who it suits
Commuters and fitness riders who log long distances on pavement and bike paths, want the pedal feel of a motor at the cranks, and like a low frame to step through (see hub motor vs mid-drive).
